NEWS LETTER OF JAPA VIETNAM / SUMMER 2006

Japa Vietnam held a Charity Concert "Beautiful Vietnam" in the afternoon of March 5, 2006, at the Joseph Hall of St. Ignatius Church in central Tokyo. The Concert attracted over 120 people who enjoyed Vietnamese music and dances, an interlude done by a ventriloquist and a bazaar with Vietnamese Coffee and handicraft goods.

A mixed group of 25 Vietnamese members of the Cecilia Choir, a Japanese player specialist of the Vietnamese music instrument "Dan Bau", and the music group "Physical Works" performed Vietnamese music and dances in cooperation with Japa Vietnam raising the interest of the audience in our programs in Vietnam. The Concert was instrumental in letting people taste Vietnamese culture and traditional dances.

Two professional singers, Kimura Tomoko and Tanaka Kazue, together with pianist Morita brought the admiration of the public with their Japanese and Italian songs. The Concert closed with the song "Diem Xua" sung by the whole audience.
Young ladies in their Vietnamese Ao Dai dress moved around the public gathering donation money for Japa Vietnam's programs and as a result we were able to raise new funds for various projects in Vietnam.
The results were quite satisfactory. We may say it was certainly a success and all persons involved were happy with the realization of the cultural event. Many of the participants heard for the first time the sound of the one-string Vietnamese musical instrument, "Dan Bau," played by Japa Vietnam member Shino Midori. The Charity Concert was a tool to enjoy the rich Vietnamese culture. We are, specially, grateful to the generous cooperation of the members of the Cecilia Choir. To be able to cooperate with them was a very rich experience for us and we plan to continue in the future such an event, at least once a year.
