REPORT ON HEALTH EDUCATION PROJECT
Here is a detailed account of the expenses:

Long Dien, January 15, 2002
Thanks to Japa Vietnam very much. I have received your letter providing us scholarships for 15 ethnic minority students. The students come from the S'tieng and the M'nong ethnic groups, The list of the names of the students is also provided below.

Ho Chi Minh, January 7, 2002
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you! First, I want to sing a happy song for you. I received your greeting card today. Thank you very much.
Last summer when your group came to visit us, you met several persons in the slums of district 7. Three have already died. They were young. So, we are very sad facing the factual effects of AIDS.
This year, we will concentrate more on "advocacy" in our work in order to improve our tasks.
We train many key persons who live in communities. Besides, we try to set up PHA (people living with HIV/AIDS) units in their homes and in several provinces. I hope we can make progress.
We understand that Ono plans to visit and live here some months. I appreciate her social work for HIV/ AIDS. We will try our best to support her because she's the one of our closest friends from Japa Vietnam.
I just came back from Lang Son for a workshop about harm reduction and peer education in which I'm a facilitator. Itfs a pity that almost all the participants who are drug users get HIV, although they're young.

Hung Trung, January 2002.
I am making a plan for building a gWater Reservoirhin the place where you have helped the people to construct literacy classrooms. As a result of that, their children have now an opportunity to receive education. There is no one in this village that is not grateful to you.
Now the thing I want to mention to you is that the water in this area is salty. Moreover is also polluted. In other words, all the households are without drinking water. By this way we can retain the water and purify it. As you know, all the people in the village are poor peasants. They can't afford such a big construction.

Tan Hung, August 2001
In the past you have helped to build two classrooms for the children to study at Song Be and also one road at Long Dien.
I am now stationed at Tan Hung, a village 120 km north west of Ho Chi Minh. Because of a poor economic situation, in the past, people had to leave their motherland to come here in 1975.
Their main job is to plant trees but they meet lots of difficult problems. One of them is available water. Several families have 25 meter deep wells, but for more than 5 months, during the dry season, the wells become dry. During the rainy season they have water about 6 months a year. The critical lack of water influences much the farmers' health and daily life.
If we could drill 75-100m deep wells, then the people would have fresh water all around. That way we could have clean water and avoid disease.

Xuan Hoa, August 15, 2001
The people from Xuan Hoa send you their best wishes. We are always thankful for your assistance to us, during the past several years.
Now we want to explain you the following problems we have.
1. We could not yet construct the small bridge assisted by you, because the government has decided to widen the river 5m more, so that the water runs steadily and there could be more and better harvests. That way also the people can move back and forth more easily. So our planned bridge will be 30m long instead of 25m and then we need more money to build it.
2. We need a new clinic. In 1992 Japa Vietnam helped us to build a Clinic very near our parish. In fact, sick women hesitate to go to the Clinic, and the local officer wants the Clinic to be moved to a more convenient and handy location. We will pay 20 million VND, but the cost of the clinic will be 30 million VND. We would like to ask Japa Vietnam for extra funds.
We hope you consider our request again.
