This was my second visit, but the first time that I traveled Vietnam from
North to South. Here are the features of my traveling companions. I, on
purpose, avoid giving names, but you could guess by the articles written
above.
Mr. A. He is often smiling and has a warm personality. He does things rather fast and was a great help to us this time. Nevertheless, he has some clear defects. He can not get up early in the morning. Twice during the journey he had made early appointments he never fulfilled. Since he is always laughing everybody forgives him. Good smoker and drinker.
Mrs. B. She is like a professional bargainer. She kept talking for 6 full hours about her native place Hokkaido and Italy in our way to Cao Bang by car. Last spring she went to Cambodia and coming back to Japan she spent several days in bed. This time her family objected to her coming, but she said, "it has been wonderful." I feel also grateful thinking about all the shopping done.
Miss C. She has a special taste for paintings. When she ends talking, she keeps her warm eyes on you making you important. In our visit to the street children she joined the volunteer girls as one of her sisters. Her digital movie camera inspired me to get in communication with the Vietnamese. Traveling is really enjoyable!
Mr. D. He goes to Vietnam every year, but this time he did only the first part. A great snorer. I was lucky to get my earplugs with me. His absence during the second part of our journey convinced us of his valuable presence. My only complain is that because he should not drink alcohol he should not jeer at tossing off with the Vietnamese.

Mrs. E. She is popular with everybody, from senior people of the countryside
to the volunteer staff working for street children and to the children
of ethnic minorities. It is no wonder because she brings the photos taken
last year and distributes them to each. She has been keeping a detailed
account of each yearly visit. I tried to help her this time and I experienced
how troublesome it was. Wait for next year. I will do my best.
Miss F. She is young but does not sleep in the car (!) She keeps looking
from the window. She begins sketching as soon as we reached our destination.
She observed for long time the street children beading. She is calm but
had a good time playing with the boys at Thao Dan. Let's meet with them
there again next time.
Miss G. Her fair command of Nagoya accent was impressive. I admired her
patience to spend one hour learning how to count in Vietnamese from the
girls. It's really good to be young. Together with Miss F she succeeded
in making popular some Japanese children's games. Let's study Vietnamese
harder and go back again there.
Mr. H. He was often busy running around and could not stay with us. He had been to the USA for a short while and became round. During our free hours in Cao Bang we had the opportunity to visit the place where Ho Chi Minh kept hiding during the war with the French, but he refused bluntly "I don't want to see those caves." He will go to the Philippines for a while. Let's hope he does not become fatter.
Mr. I. He got stomach trouble and during the last part of the journey he was weak. It was a bitter experience, since he had kept this year alert to excesses. In spite of it, he went to see the Museum of History and came back to the hotel walking under the rain for 30 minutes. Back in Narita we all became nervous because the customs officer stopped him. He had with him lots of gifts and souvenirs from Vietnam. Let's meet again next year! Maybe, isn't it?
