Americans and Chinese once got a breakthrough in their tense relationship
by, let's say "TENNIS TABLE" diplomacy. Japa Vietnam, however,
has come to Vietnam on "A One- Kilometer-Long Village Road" at
Tu Xa Hamlet, Soc Trang Province. The road has been named AKIMI, in memory
of the lady who paved the way for the construction of many other infrastructure
facilities, from the Mekong Delta to Binh Thuan Province around the region
in South Central Vietnam.
Looking back at the 10 years of cooperation when we had become a link between
Japa Vietnam and the projects' beneficiaries in Vietnam, I think Japa Vietnam
could be proud of the work done.
Infrastructure facilities, always necessary for development, have brought
about lots of economic and social benefits. They also have reduced the
frequency of fatal accidents during the rainy seasons at Tan Chau, Tan
Ha, Phuoc An, Hoa Vinh in Binh Thuan, Tu Xa and Xuan Hoa in Soc Trang.

Kindergartens, Nursery-schools, Technical vocational schools and "Charity"
classes have helped thousands of rural teenagers to have both basic educational
background, and to be able to live a decent life. Mothers have much more
time to help in the fields since they don't have to take care of their
children all the time. Moreover, families who have children attending the
firs two years of Primary school no longer worry about tuition fees (at
Tan Lap).
Clean water systems have cut down common diseases, especially, in children,
and have improved the longevity in elderly people (at Xuan Hoa, Tu Xa,
Thu Thua in the Mekong delta).
The project of turning wasteland into agricultural farm. Projects like
these are the most successful ones. In fact, they have changed Phuoc An,
a very poor arid land into a rather prosperous hamlet, compared with the
hamlets near by.
